Silent Hill 2
Restless Dreams
It's been three years since James Sunderland's wife became seriously ill and passed away. James has tried to pull himself together and resume his life after the loss but the emotional pain and emptiness leaves the widower in a constant state of mourning. One day, a cryptic letter arrives signed by Mary, the same name as his late wife. The letter bids James to go to "Silent Hill, our sanctuary of memories ...I will be waiting for you there."
"Our sanctuary of memories - what does that mean? This place is too full of memories"
Perplexed and unnerved by the mysterious letter, James wonders if Mary could somehow be alive, or if someone is playing a hoax on him.
"I still don't believe it. The dead can't send letters, yet I came here to find my Mary..."
Driven by a desire to uncover the truth, James sets off for the small town of Silent Hill, a ghostly place shrouded in fog and mystery. Finding the only road to the center of town blocked, James discovers a map showing a single path leading through the forest and into Silent Hill and sets out to meet his fate...
"I look at the man in the mirror and wonder... Mary, could you really be in this town?
The first character James encounters, Angela is a skittish young runaway with a shadowy past. James first meets her at a cemetery on the outskirts of town, and quickly learns that she has run away. Angela is convinced that she will never ever be happy and has run away from home in the past, but her father found her and dragged her back home. She's run away again, but now finds herself lost in the town of Silent Hill.
Deeply terrified of getting hurt, Eddie is a simple-minded, clumsy and useless man. Eddie has a gentle, quiet personality, but possesses a darker, more violent side that he cannot control when angered. What has led this troubled man to Silent Hill, and what is his purpose there?
Three years ago, James Sunderland lost his beloved wife Mary to a painful and prolonged illness. James has since spent his time wasting away in empty, lifeless days of mourning, until a mysterious letter arrives. The name of the sender is Mary Shepherd-Sunderland, his late wife. The cryptic letter beckons him to meet her in Silent Hill, a town that once held a great meaning for the couple. Although he firmly believes that his wife cannot be alive, James questions the origins of the letter and is determined to find the truth by returning to Silent Hill.
A stubborn, bratty, little girl who does what she pleases and then suddenly goes on her way. Laura crosses James' path many times throughout his search and seems to know more about Mary than she's willing to reveal. As James' quest progresses, it's revealed that Laura was a patient in the same hospital as Mary, where they became very close, with Mary having loved her as her very own daughter. Perhaps this mysterious child holds the truth that James is seeking?
A near twin of James' late wife, only Maria's hairstyle and taste in clothing mark her as being a different woman. As James quickly discovers, her cheerful and energetic disposition is also the exact opposite of Mary's. When James first meets Maria, he is shocked by the physical similarities between she and his late wife, as well as the intimacy of their conversation, which feels as if they have known each other for years. After learning of James' purpose in Silent Hill, Maria becomes intrigued, and decides to accompany him in his quest to find Mary.
After contracting a rare and fatal disease Mary finds herself inside a hospital for most of the rest of her life. She is deeply in love with James and finds that he is coming less and less to see her. It isn't to long until she passes away. After her death she somehow sends a letter to James, telling him to meet her in their speical place in Silent Hill. Can Mary really be alive and waiting for James? Could this show that love can transend life and death? Or is there something darker behind bringing James to this town?
